John Singleton Copley, Baron Lyndhurst manuscript material : 58 items ca. 1825-1861

John Singleton Copley, 1st Baron Lyndhurst, British politician. The John Singleton Copley, Baron Lyndhurst manuscript material in the Pforzheimer Collection consists of correspondence and one holograph list of notable people ("The Rev.d Gilbert Beresford / Lord Nelson / Horatio Bolton his Nephew / Lord Cholmondely / D Chaf[fe]y Master of Sidney ..."), the purpose of which is undetermined. As Lyndhurst was not in the habit of dating his letters, precise dates are difficult to figure; the bulk of the correspondence, however, bears watermarks dating between 1835 and 1837. Correspondents include: Lady Blessington, writer and literary hostess; Abraham Hayward, essayist and translator; Sir William Knighton, courtier and physician; and a few others.
